URBAN "CITY" BRANCHES
FOR FAST BANKING

Having been awarded a contract for project management in connection with the conversion and fit-out of ten new Commerzbank “City” branches, we set about developing a master layout for each location in accordance with the customer’s design manual and were on site to oversee implementation.

“City” branches are a compact branch format operated by Commerzbank alongside its flagship branches. The City concept combines a streamlined package of services with modern aesthetics.

In the case of the new City unit in Lübeck the branch closed at its old location before reopening at the Citti Park shopping centre. Only 6 weeks were available for the creation of the new branch.

A NEW CITY BRANCH
TAKES SHAPE
IN JUST 6 WEEKS

The main features of a City branch are a self-service centre, a service zone and a separate room for discussions of a confidential nature. The self-service centre essentially forms the entrance to the branch and can be separated off from the service zone outside working hours. During the day the two areas combine to form a single open-plan space.

A material mix featuring a wealth of wood, brickwork and architectural concrete gives City branches a highly urban feel. To date we have created 10 such branches on behalf of Commerzbank, including the branch in Lübeck. Our tasks were to survey the intended premises, assess the local area and its feasibility as a branch location, create a masterplan in accordance with the design manual and supervise conversion work.

// It goes without saying that good plans are crucial when you only have six weeks available. But you can’t plan everything. As is often the case, we had to react fast on a number of occasions during the conversion window. To give an example, the wall modules could only be installed by operators wearing dust masks outside the opening hours of the shopping centre. This was both a surprise and a challenge! Our solution was to introduce a shift system that ensured worker safety without jeopardizing on-time completion. //
